WHIDBEY ART ESCAPE

PROJECT GOAL

One of the many ways I enjoy giving back to my community is by helping small, local businesses with their web design needs on a pro-bono basis. The goal of this project was to provide users with a colorful, inviting website from which they can get basic information about the shop (location, hours, etc.) as well as an overview of the services offered and special event information.

CHALLENGES

1.  Limited budget.2.  Limited technical resources.3.  No development support.

RESEARCH

  • User personas
  • Competitive Analysis
  • User interviews
  • UX/UI best practices
  • Wordpress Platform
  • SEO Best Practices

CONCEPT & PROCESS

With word-of-mouth being the most powerful tool small businesses possess, I felt it was critical to spend time with the customers who frequent the shop to better understand what drives Whidbey Art Escape's loyal customer base. After conducting user interviews and additional research, I chose a customizable theme that accomodated the business needs while also providing the opportunity to create a visually stimulating aesthetic.

SOLUTION

The final solution utilized:

  • 1.  Responsive Wordpress template
  • 2.  A bold, saturated color palette
  • 3.  Event Calendar
  • 4.  Contact form and interactive map
  • 5.  Customer Art Gallery
  • 6.  Educational inserts with photography
